Serendipity for success

Recently  while on vacation at the Oregon Coast I was a little stressed out to find what in my mind was the “perfect way” to spend the day. We thought we would spend time with the two boys in Seaside, OR at the usual spots feeding the sea lions and on the carousel. We changed our mind and decided to leave for Ecola State Park. Ecola is a place we had yet to visit but have driven by dozens of times because for various reasons, but primarily because it seemed lackluster compared the usual “kiddie” stuff at Seaside.

The drive through the forest to get to the park was amazing. It looked like Endor (home to the Ewoks from Return of the Jedi) and we had our boys convinced that it was. We ended up having the best time down at the Indian Beach area of the park. The sounds of the waves crashing followed by the water’s retreat over rocks was really relaxing. The boys found a ton of things to do like throwing rocks in the water and climbing around on beached logs. The boys had way more fun just playing however they wanted instead of our ideal formula for fun. Indian Beach ended up being a “new find” in my book and I will definitely return.

Sometimes the best opportunities are already around us if we just change our thinking of what the “perfect” model of fun and life may be. Changing our expectations from the normal standards and deviating course often leads to great discoveries. What if you decided to take a class to learn something new, listen to something positive, read a great article, or search out a beautiful picture for your wall? That one small step could be the catalyst for a different direction in your life in finding additional success. Imagination is the fuel that drives success and action is the the vehicle that gets you there.
