The 1000 yard stare

The best snipers in the world will tell you that in common they have developed their “thousand yard stare”. This essentially is the degree of focus that they must have on a target that is over one thousand yards away in order to hit it. As my army of peers that’s your mission today, develop a thousand yard stare for your own success. Here’s how:

  1. Dream really big about what your perfect world looks like. This means everything from where you live, what you drive, how much money you are making, what you doing with your free time… Then WRITE IT DOWN and look at it every single day.
  2. Figure out who else is included in your dream. For me it is my family. Whatever it is for you, it will drive you the most if it involves other people. Saying, “I want a million dollars” doesn’t have the same impact as “I have a million dollars in the bank and that makes it possible to go to every one of my son’s baseball games.”
  3. Look up to the best who have the business you want and learn from them. Tony Robbins one said “Pleasure comes from getting stuff, meaning comes from growth and contribution.” I want to take a minute and ground this to reality… Successful people live their life in order to achieve meaning. The “stuff” doesn’t matter to them. These people are willing to contribute to your success by sharing their secrets, if you approach them sincerely and keep your intent genuine.
  4. Act with a plan when you go about your day. For everything you say yes to, you’re saying no to something else. This is important regarding your time. From the jobs you take to the committees you join in an organization you must evaluate the time commitments. I used to be on many committees at my local remodeler’s organization until I asked myself which was better…3 hours spent on marketing and management of my business OR 3 hours talking about what the name tags should look like for the membership meetings.

From your networking to your news sources your success will lie within being a better judge of where to invest your time. E-mail me your thoughts because I’d love to hear from you.
